The Customer
The Indian Air Force is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. Its complement of personnel and aircraft assets ranks fourth amongst the air forces of the world. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict.

The Problem
Since flight training exercises are too expensive and dangerous to be done in real life , the IAF was looking for an alternative training solution which can help in reducing the frequency of inflight training without compromising on the quality of the training and also explore possibilities which can train the aviators in tackling situations such as engine failure and other emergency situations which can not be simulated even during actual inflight training.
The Solutions
We successfully deployed a fully immersive virtual reality simulator for HAL HJT-16 Kiran Aircraft, to enable pilots to experience a ground or in-flight emergency to train and demonstrate their ability to efficiently and accurately work through an emergency situation. During the VR training sessions, student pilots are put under realistic emergency situations such as an engine fire or avionics malfunction etc., and are required to work through appropriate activities and communications tasks to resolve it under pressure. A Five Axis force feedback USB Joystick with 5 high resolution axis, adjustable clutches and collective buttons aids in the complete flight control The platform also comprises a Real-Time Progress Tracking dashboard for trainers and instructors which helps them to monitor data on Individual & Group Performance of the crew and a gamified dashboards for trainees.
Benefits

By rendering the actual battlefield situations in VR and giving a fully immersive experience to the users, the personnel can easily grasp various situations without actually being in them.

The trainers are able to get better insights about the pilots under a single platform and plan and make futuristic decisions using key metrics available in the dashboard.

The gamification leaderboard results displayed under the dashboard promotes healthy competition among the pilots.Gives pilots and provides them with real-time view into their learning and performance.

Force feedback enabled replicas of inflight controls makes the VR training highly immersive and realistic which bridges the gap between VR training and inflight training to a great extent.

Student pilots are now able to access the simulation at any time using their VR system issued to them as part of the program this increases the frequency of their training and helps them in developing muscle memory to operate more efficiently during live sortie missions.
